EDUCATION (aka, Formation)

What is Formation?

Formation is the lifelong process and practice of being formed for our vocation as members of the Beloved Community, walking the Way of Love, following in the footsteps of Christ. Formation is learning, questioning, challenging, growing.

School and Service

For some of us, our formation began in Church School on Sunday mornings. Listening to stories from the Bible and learning how to pray can lay the foundation for loving and blessing our neighbor as we grow into a life of service.

Lifelong Learning

For some of us, our formation began or was revitalized as adults; asking difficult questions of faith and belief, joining a guild or study group that constantly pushes us to learn, exploring the journey of baptism, confirmation, or reception.

School and Service

The goal of Christian Education at St. Michael's is to bring each child nearer to the knowledge and love of God, and of his Son Jesus Christ. We firmly believe in the innate spirituality of children, teenagers, and young adults, and hope to provide an environment in which that spirituality can deepen and flourish. Our focus is on scripture, worship, and service. At every stage of growth, our children and youth are considered active participants and vital members of the parish community.

Lifelong Learning

Part of our mission at St. Michael’s is “to seek transformation in God’s grace by worshiping God in prayer, song, and study.” We recognize that formation and education are lifelong journeys, so we set aside time and space to listen, learn, discern, and discuss together in community. It doesn’t matter if this is your first time setting foot in a church, your first time after years away, or if you’ve been attending for years: we are all learning together, and we are always learning from one another.

Study for Baptism, Confirmation, Reception

If you feel a call to be formally received into our community, we invite you to enter into a period of discernment, reflection, and study with our priest. Whether you are considering baptism (to become a Christian), confirmation (to make a mature and considered renewal of baptismal vows) or reception (to formally join the Episcopal Church after being baptized in another Christian tradition), we would be honored to support you as you discern God’s call to you.
