2019 Annual Report of the Parish and Parsonage Trust

The following is an excerpt of the 2019 Annual Report of the Parish and Parsonage Trust as published in the 2019 Annual Report of the Parish. Members of the parish in good standing may request a copy of the full report from the Church Office.

The Parish and Parsonage Trust administers the rental and maintenance of the two unit apartment building located at 18 Pleasant Street, Marblehead, MA which is known as the Murray House (next to the Davenport House – Sunday Church School and Thrift Shop). There are three Trustees at present, John G. Attridge, Stephen B. Clay, and William R. Miller. This Perpetual Trust has been in existence since January 1957 for the express purpose of providing housing for a minister or assistant minister of the Parish. If unoccupied for this purpose i is to be rented to other suitable tenants and the net rental income beyond the retention of security deposits and other expenses be transferred to the parish annually.

Maintaining the property continues to be the primary focus of our efforts after providing a return to the operating budget. Plumbing-related issues were addressed. The first floor unit was painted and cleaned. Prospective maintenance projects for FY 2020 include roof repair and exterior painting.

The Strategic Thinking model was applied to the Murray House in January 2019. A committee of the 3 Trustees, James Dearborn, and Kristin Carlson reviewed the Parish and Parsonage Trust, its importance to the mission of St. Michael’s and its financial condition. A discussion of the current market conditions and projecting the sustainability of the rental property was held over 2 meetings.

Respectfully submitted,

John G. Attridge
Stephen B. Clay
William R. Miller
